Rob Brooks enters his first season as an assistant coach on James Green’s staff at Jacksonville State, bringing experience from the Pac-10 and high school ranks in his home state of California. Prior to moving into his first Division I assistants role at Jacksonville State University, Brooks was the Co-Head Coach at one of the top prep school basketball programs on the west coast, StoneRidge Prep School in Los Angeles, for the 2007-08 season. Brooks went to StoneRidge after a four-year stint at Southern Cal, where he served as a manager for two seasons under head coach Henry Bibby before moving into the Trojans’ Head Manger/Student Assistant position after his mentor, Tim Floyd, took over the program prior to the 2005-06 season. What Brooks calls “the opportunity of a lifetime” was something that he didn’t take lightly. He took the chance to observe, listen and learn from one of the most successful coaches in the game of basketball in Floyd. Brooks also had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the game’s top assistants in Phil Johnson, Gib Arnold, Bob Cantu and Demarlo Slocum. During Brooks’ tenure on Coach Floyd’s staff at USC, the Trojans posted a combined 42-25 record in two seasons and ended 2006-07 season by reaching the Sweet 16 and setting a school record with 25 wins. That same year saw the Trojans’ recruiting class rated by ESPN as the No. 1 class in the country. While at StoneRidge Prep with Co-Head Coach Babacar Sy, Brooks was instrumental in recruiting J.P. Olekumi, one of the nation’s top 20 fifth-year players in HoopScoopOnline.com’s class of 2007, to the Wildcats. While at StoneRidge, Brooks coached 10 players who received offers or went on to play college basketball. Brooks was born in Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1984, and was a two-year starter and captain of Los Alamitos High School Varsity Basketball Team, in his hometown of Seal Beach, Calif. Brooks graduated from the University of Southern California in 2007 with a B.A. in Sociology. Brooks is single and now resides in Jacksonville, Ala. |
